AVWeek 526: We’ll Do It Live

By 992 views

Two Truths, Simultaneously Stop us if you think you’ve heard this one before- It’s time to take a look at the latest news coming out of the commercial side of the AV industry. Joining us to do just that is Global Services Manager at Verrex Charmaine Torruella, Executive Vice President of the Americas at PrimeView Chanan Averbuch, and newly minted Business Development Manager for AVI-SPL Chris Fitzsimmons. Just a little over a week ago Tim sat down with AVIXA CEO David Labuskes and discussed the InfoComm show, of which he is adamant it will commence in Orlando October 23-29. He showed the same sentiments on a few other interviews of late, possibly related to the fact that NAB has decided to cancel their physical show that was slated for October 9-13 in Las Vegas. It is a hard cancellation with no plans to reschedule, instead opting for virtual options for content meant for the show. It does seem like we’ve had this kind of conversation a lot in the past 18 months, but once again we look at the pandemic and physical events if it’s worth the risk for those companies, and the risks involved in not having a show. Could federal or state regulations get in the way regardless of intent to have an event? Looking at what this could mean for future shows, the live event space and the industry as a whole. Speaking of events, even virtual ones, Zoom held their annual Zoomtopia event this week. The company announced many new products and features including but not limited to live translation & transcription, a whiteboard application for collaboration and integration with virtual reality headsets. We discuss the highlights from the event and the merits of the virtual event space that companies like Microsoft and Zoom are able to accomplish.
